I was once a paperhanger in Anchorage, Alaska. One of my out of town clients left a key for me to get inside his home. The job was to hang this beautiful copper color 54” wallpaper. It was absolutely gorgeous.
But his house smelled the first day the job began
It smelled rotten. Every time I walked into the house it smelled just awful, the worse stink ever! Finally I couldn’t stand it any more and decided to become a snoop, but I gotta tell ya, I was a bit nervous because what would I find? A dead mouse or something worse?
Search and rescue in the kitchen
I looked into the garbage; then took it out. Made sure the refrigerator was working and food wasn’t rotting in there; it worked fine. Then I started opening cupboard doors.
Found the culprit
The owner had left a huge piece of meat, most likely to defrost, in a kitchen cupboard then promptly forgot about it! I grabbed that now room temperature, brown hunk of beef and quickly threw it outside in the garbage can. Problem solved.
Breathing was easier
Paperhanging continued without incident and the job was completed in no time 🙂
